An Exploration of Light for Comm 370

Portraits

I feel like I have a hard time taking and editing portraits. I just don’t have much practice and have a hard time knowing what to do to make the subjects look good. I feel all right with what I got for the assignment but I feel much better taking and editing photos of objects and landscapes. For all the photos I did some slight edits using camera raw and that’s about it.

Shooting at the dunk contest was an interesting experience. It is really had to freeze action in terrible lighting. I had to shoot at way too high of ISO to get them to look remotely good. I used camera raw to add some fill light, brighten them up a little and reduce the noise.

  1. Seth,
I really enjoyed looking at your portraits! I think that you have amazing composition in each of the shots that you took. I particularly like the different lighting in each picture. My favorite is the environmental. I think that moment was captured perfectly and the colors really stand out. There is a clear focal point and it tells a compelling story. I also really like the individual head and shoulders. I think that the lighting, composition, and the direction of the photograph really makes for a compelling picture. You did a really good job on your blog!

  2. Wow Seth that is really cool. I think that your profile shoots are really cool. I really like the environmental shoot. And the head and shoulder shoot.
What I would caution about is the over exposure on the group posed and the side composition. The pictures them self are awesome you did a really good job.
